Adopted Child Status

Adopted Child Status

Adopted Child Status. – The behavioral manifestations of the problematic identity formation experienced by many adopted children are based on the inability to bring childhood identifications and attributions into sufficient focus to establish a consistent set of expectations. This state is primarily due to a lack of genealogical identification that interferes with the ability of the child and others to attribute behavior and outcomes to internal or external factors. In turn, this status results in identity confusion with concomitant behavioral manifestations, the goals of which are to distinguish the boundaries of external influences and to differentiate a self, discrete from biological antecedents.
